The ForeStereo Iberoptics® is a forest measurement system based on the Utility Model MU-2005-01738.
It consists of:
- a (machine vision) stereovision system of 2592 pixel x 1944 pixel resolution cameras (CMOS sensor)
- fisheye lenses, capable of acquire 2 stereoscopic hemispherical images of 5 Mp
- 9000mA/h power supply
- levelling tripod through
- USB connection
The image analysis software ForeStereo developed by the INIA-CIFOR allows the 3D restoration of sytems from the stereoscopic hemispherical images.
The software estimates:
- DBH
- Leaf Area Index
- Basal Area
- Volume and Tree Number by DBH classes and species.
For DBH the R2 Pearson coefficient is > 0.8.
The basal area estimation Root Mean Square Error smaller than 5% has been obtained for a sample size of 20 plots in even-aged pine stands. Additional data on distance,
DBH and volume estimation can be downloaded from http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10342-014-0806-6
